What license is needed as a tattoo artist in Texas?

Tattoo artists who are employed by licensed tattoo studios in Texas must register with the state Department of Health. Those who register must be able to show they have attended an approved training course covering job skills and health and safety procedures. The course must include 6 hours of instruction on blood-borne pathogens and infection control. Tattoo artist registration is good for one year, and renewal requires attendance of another training course that involves 4 hours of instruction on blood-borne pathogens and infection control.
