Lichen planus usually goes away within two years, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. This skin problem may come and go for years in some people. About one in five have a second outbreak.
Lichen planus is a common skin disease that can develop on one or several parts of the body. It can also appear inside the mouth. The American Academy of Dermatology notes that the disease is not contagious, meaning that a person cannot give it to or get it from anyone else. Although there is no cure for lichen planus, a doctor may prescribe pills that give relief from itching. Light therapy may also be effective.
