Trigger finger commonly occurs in musicians, farmers, industrial workers and other individuals who perform repeated finger and thumb movements often, as stated by WebMD. This condition occurs more in women than in men, and it commonly affects individuals who are between the ages of 40 to 60 years old.

The first noticeable symptom of trigger finger is a soreness that develops around the base of the finger and thumb. Other symptoms that occur include a painful snapping or clicking sensation whenever the finger is being straightened out, often causing the finger to become locked. Trigger finger is caused when tendons in the thumb and finger become inflamed, making it difficult and painful to move the finger normally.
