Does Lipitor cause calf muscle pain?

The cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor does cause calf muscle pain for some patients. Muscle pain is listed as an infrequent side effect associated with Lipitor, according to WebMD. Side effects need to be reported to a doctor for monitoring.
Muscle pain is reported in a small number of people who take Lipitor. If a doctor chooses to lower the dose or stop the medication, the muscle pain usually subsides. Other medicines combined with Lipitor could also contribute to muscle problems, so a patient must tell his doctor or pharmacist about all medications he is taking. Muscle problems can lead to kidney problems, including kidney failure, according to Pfizer.
