It can take around 2 days to thaw a 10-pound turkey in a refrigerator, and around 5 hours to thaw it in cold water. Keep the turkey in the original wrapper when thawing.

In order to thaw the turkey in a refrigerator, place it on a tray or inside a large container to catch any juices that may leak from the wrapper. If it's thawed in the refrigerator, it must be cooked within 2 days of thawing. If the turkey is thawed in cold water, change the water every 30 minutes to keep it cold. Cook the turkey immediately if thawing in cold water.
