Flamingos can live as long as 20 years and are considered full adults by 1 1/2 to 2 years of age. Flamingos tend to mate for life and are recognized easily by their bright pink color.
Flamingos are actually born, however, not pink but gray. They also have straight bills that curve inward and downward slightly as they age. The flamingo will grow to have an approximate wingspan of 5 feet. The birds are a staple at many zoos, but are naturally found in the Caribbean, Central America and South America. They live in large groups and are very social animals. When one area runs out of enough food for the birds, the whole group will move to a new area together.
