How long does henna last?

Henna can last from one to four weeks. Henna designs look the most vibrant the first week they are applied, and the color lightens over time. Henna artists recommended applying the design two to three days before a big event so the henna looks its best.

There are additional measures a person can take to ensure her henna lasts longer. Henna artists recommend that their clients don't shower or wash the decorated area for up to 24 hours after application for the most vibrant results. Exfoliating the skin and swimming in chlorinated water also fades the design more rapidly. Apply a thin layer of natural vegetable-based moisturizer to the henna before exposing it to water to extend the color life.
