How long do you keep dogs off newly planted grass seed?
By Forinfos - 27/03/2026 - 0 comments
Keep dogs away from newly planted grass seed for two to four weeks, depending on the type of seed. People and pets should not walk on seed that is in the process of sprouting and growing into plants.
Plants in the germination stage are delicate and can easily be damaged or killed if trampled. Some types of grass seed, such as ryegrass, germinate in a week while others, such as Kentucky bluegrass, take more than four weeks. Individual seeds also sprout and grow at different rates. If the seed type is unknown, keeping off the newly planted seed for at least a month is the safest option.
