How long does a mosquito live?

Most mosquitoes live two to three weeks, but some species can live up to six months. Mosquitoes can live longer in warm and humid environments.

Female mosquitoes feed on the blood of humans and animals to help mature their eggs before they lay them. Males do not feed on blood. Both sexes consume plant nectar for survival. Carbon dioxide released from humans and animals attracts mosquitoes, and they can detect the emission as far as 35 feet away. As they move closer to the target, sweat, lactic acid and heat help them find a place to land and extract blood.
