How long do seeds last?

Most seeds last one year without a decrease in germination rates. Some varieties stay in good condition for up to six years, even if they are not dried. Dried seeds can be stored for 10 years or more, although long-term storage affects their germination rates.

A vegetable seed's life expectancy depends on the type of plant it produces. Onion and parsley seeds have a one-year life expectancy, while corn and pepper seeds last two years. Cucumber and radish seeds last five years, and lettuce seeds are viable for six years. Seeds stay best when they are kept dry and below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
