The side effects of the pneumonia shot, otherwise known as the pneumococcal vaccine, disappear within a few days, states WebMD. Some reported side effects of the shot are swelling, tenderness and redness at the vaccination site.
Although normal side effects of the pneumonia shot are generally mild and go away within a few days, in rare cases some individuals may experience more severe side effects, such as fever, significant swelling, pain and muscle aches. Even fewer people experience a severe allergic reaction to the vaccine, but those who do require immediate medical attention, explains WebMD. Some signs of a severe allergic reaction include breathing difficulty, hives and rapid heartbeat.
