Also known as an LPO, a loss prevention officer works in retail stores to monitor suspicious behavior and prevent shoplifting. A loss prevention officer usually works undercover, patrolling a retail store to keep an eye on the shoppers, or he works in the back office monitoring video footage.
Loss prevention officers keep an eye on shoppers to prevent theft and interchanging of price tags. They may also be called on to monitor the retail store personnel to prevent situations in which employees undercharge friends or violate policies of the store. This job requires strong interpersonal skills since it involves dealing with people. Officers must avoid bias when dealing with customers.
