What is the loudest animal in the world?

Scientists believe that the loudest animal in the world is the sperm whale. The sperm whale communicates and locates its prey through clicks that can sometimes reach 230 decibels.

Sperm whales produce sounds through "monkey lips" near the single blowhole. The sounds are focused by the forehead, or melon, which is filled with spermaceti organs. The sound bounces back and forth through the whale's head. When the sound bounces off an object, the echoes return through the whale's lower jaw and continues on to the whale's inner ear. This helps the whale navigate in deep waters that are often lightless.
