Where are the magnetic strips located in a refrigerator?

Magnetic strips are used in the gaskets that line refrigerator doors. They allow the doors to close tightly, making the refrigerator more energy efficient. The gaskets are made of a flexible, soft PVC material with a magnetic strip concealed inside.

The gaskets are made to resist high and low temperatures and are age-, damage- and demagnetization-resistant. The flexible material makes the gaskets airtight. On very old appliances, the material used for the gaskets is sometimes found with tears, or even partially pulled off the door. If an old refrigerator is otherwise in working order, replacing the gasket may make it usable once more.
