Some of the major bodies of water in Alabama are the Alabama River, Tennessee River, Tombigbee River, Black Warrior River, Mobile River, Cahaba River, Coosa River, Tallapoosa River, Chattahoochee River, Choctawhatchee River, Conecuh River, Mobile Bay and Choctawhatchee Bay. There are no natural lakes in Alabama; however, some artificial lakes were created from the dams and reservoirs built on its various rivers.
The majority of the water systems in Alabama empty into the Gulf of Mexico. The Mobile River is formed at the confluence of the Alabama River and Tombigbee River. Other man-made lakes in Alabama are Guntersville, West Point, Aliceville, Bear Creek, Bankhead and Harding.
