Some of the most deadly and destructive earthquakes of the 21st century have taken place in Haiti in 2010, the Indian Ocean in 2004, China in 2008, Pakistan in 2005 and Iran in 2003. These rank as the largest earthquakes of the 21st century.
The Haiti earthquake of 2010 killed 316,000 people and measured 7.0 on the Richter scale. The Indian Ocean earthquake of 2004 measured 9.1 and killed 227,898 people. The 2008 China earthquake registered 7.0 and left 87,587 people dead. The 2005 Pakistan earthquake measured 7.6 and killed 80, 361 people. The 2003 Iran earthquake measured 6.6 and killed 31,000 people.
