As recently as 2013, the largest export companies in the world included America Chung Nam, Koch Industries, International Paper, Denison International, and DuPont. Exports are measured in twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), and each of these companies shipped hundreds of thousands of TEUs over the course of the year.

America Chung Nam specializes in taking paper waste from the United States and shipping it abroad, where the paper is then converted into packaging materials. The company maintains a sister company in China that is that country's largest containerboard manufacturer, as of 2013.

Koch Industries generates over $100 billion in annual revenue and exports pulp, paper, resin, and fibers. Koch Industries uses these materials throughout its brands, including Brawny paper towels and Angel Soft toilet tissue.

International Paper generated $29 billion in net sales for 2013 and exports both paper and packaging materials from Latin America to Europe and Africa.

Denison International is based in California and ships mostly to China through its Pacific sea routes. It is best known for exporting paper for recycling. DuPont is an international company that generates over $36 billion annually. It plays a role in multiple industries and exports products ranging from chemicals to electronics, food, and agricultural products.
