What are some of the major religions practiced in Africa?

Christianity and Islam are the two major religions practiced in Africa. As of 2010, there were approximately 400 to 500 million adherents each of Christianity and Islam in Africa. This is out of a population of 1.1 billion Africans. Other major religions practiced in Africa are Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism.

Islam is the largest religion in Africa, and 47 percent of Africans adhere to it. The Christian population in Africa is mostly found in southern Africa, while North Africa is primarily Muslim. In Sub-Saharan Africa, there are twice as many Christians as Muslims. Outside of the major religions, various traditional African religions still persist among some Africans, as of 2015.
