Major roadways that lead to Raleigh, North Carolina, include Interstate 40, U.S. Route 1, U.S. Route 64 and NC Route 50. I-40 and U.S. 64 travel east to west, and U.S. 1 and NC 50 travel north to south.
I-40 passes through southwest Raleigh near Lake Johnson Park and again near U.S. 64 in the east. It is connected to the I-440 loop inside the Raleigh city limits. U.S. 64 crosses into Raleigh due east of the city and veers toward the southwest, where it merges with U.S. 1. U.S. 1 traverses the western part of the city from Capitol Boulevard to the city of Cary. U.S. 50 extends from due north of the city to the south, where it merges with U.S. 70.
