Fused glass jewelry involves attaching sheets of glass to each other using heat. The following instructions are for a basic fused glass pendant. You need glass sheets, glass scraps or focal beads, shelf paper, glue and a fused glass set up.
- Cut the glass sheet
Cut the glass sheet into the desired shape approximately 2 inches long. Use a glass grinder to smooth out the edges. Cut another piece about 1 inch long and half the width of the first. This is the bail.
- Form the bail
Cut the shelf paper into strips 1 1/2 by 1/8-inch. Glue this strip 1/2-inch from the top of the pendant.
- Attach the bail
Apply a dot of glue to the top of the shelf paper. Place the bail over this. Leave enough room on either side for the glass to melt and create a loop. Fuse the pendant in the kiln for 25 minutes at 500 degrees F. Allow the pendant to cool for 24 hours, then remove the shelf paper.
- Decorate the pendant
Glue focal beads or glass scraps to the pendant in the desired design.
- Fire the pendant
Use the soft fuse method to attach the focal beads or glass scraps: 15 minutes at 900 degrees F. Allow to cool for 24 hours.
- Complete the necklace
String a chain, tether or ribbon through the bail on the back of the pendant.
