How do you make a gnome hat?

To make a gnome hat, measure the circumference of your head, then cut a piece of felt fabric into a triangle with a round bottom edge. Fold the fabric, then sew the straight edges together.

1. Measure the circumference of your head

   Wrap a tailor's tape measure around your head so it crosses the center of your forehead. Note the measurement.

2. Mark the measurements on the felt fabric

   Determine the desired height of the gnome hat. Lay out your fabric on a flat surface. Using a fabric pencil and a ruler, draw a vertical line indicating the height of the hat. Place the ruler perpendicular to that line, then make a horizontal line indicating the circumference of the hat, adding 1/2 inch on each end for the seam. This is the same measurement as the circumference of your head. Make sure that this line is centered on the height line. Draw a diagonal line going from the top of the height line to the beginning and end of the circumference line. Draw a curved line going from one end of the horizontal line to the other for the bottom of the triangle.

3. Cut the fabric

   Cut the fabric along the diagonal lines and the curved line.

4. Sew the gnome hat

   Fold the hat to form a cone, making sure that the pencil lines are facing out. Sew along the height line, leaving a 1/2-inch seam. Hem the bottom of the hat, then turn the hat inside-out.
