Make hand soap by grating a bar of soap, melting it in water, stirring thoroughly and allowing it to cool. You can add essential oils or coloring to change the scent and appearance if desired.
- Boil 4 cups of water
In a medium saucepan or skillet, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
- Grate a bar of soap
Grate or finely chop one bar, or about 4 ounces, of soap.
- Turn off the heat, and add the soap to the water
Once the water is boiling, turn off the heat, and add the grated soap to the water.
- Stir the mixture
Stir constantly with a wooden or plastic spoon until the soap is completely dissolved, and the mixture is fully combined.
- Cool the mixture, and stir
Let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes. As it cools, it should thicken slightly. After 15 minutes, stir it again to help it maintain a smooth consistency.
- Let the mixture sit overnight
Leave the mixture overnight, stirring occasionally if needed to keep it from clumping. If it is still too runny, reheat the mixture, adding additional soap. If it is too thick, reheat it and add more water.
- Add oils or coloring
Add a few drops of essential oils, such as lavender or lemon, to your soap if you want to enjoy a fresh fragrance. Use a few drops of soap coloring if you want your soap to have a unique color. Stir well after adding these ingredients.
- Pour the mixture into dispensers
Pour the hand soap into a pump-style bottle or soap dispenser so that it's ready to use.
