How do you make homemade dishwashing detergent?

To make homemade dishwashing detergent, combine common household ingredients in a large bowl. After thoroughly mixing, allow the detergent to dry for 24 hours. Once dry, store the detergent in an airtight container.

1. Combine ingredients

   In a large mixing bowl, combine 15 drops of lemon essential oil, 1/2 cup of white vinegar, 1/2 cup of Epsom salt, 2 cups of borax and 2 cups of baking soda.

2. Stir ingredients

   With a wooden spoon, gently stir ingredients until they're thoroughly mixed. Fizzing and bubbling is normal as the acidity in vinegar interacts with the powder ingredients.

3. Add ingredients into an ice tray

   Carefully spoon the mixed ingredients into a clean plastic ice cube tray.

4. Place tray in a dry location

   Once filled, place the tray in a dry area, such as in an cabinet or a window sill with direct sunlight.

5. Dry the ingredients

   Allow the dishwashing detergent to dry for at least 24 hours. Do not touch or manipulate the ingredients during the drying process.

6. Remove detergent from the tray

   Carefully turn the tray upside down, and gently tap to dislodge detergent cubes.

7. Store in an airtight container

   Place the detergent cubes in an airtight container. Keep the container away from high moisture areas to prevent dissolving.

8. Use as normal

   Place one cube in the dishwasher detergent compartment. Run the machine as normal.
