Homemade laundry detergents are naturally low-sudsing. Make low-suds laundry detergent with water, a bar of soap, Borax, baking soda and the essential oil of your choice. You also need a grater, a stock pot, a funnel, a long spoon and two empty containers with lids.
Grate the bar of soap
Grate the bar of soap you chose into a large bowl. Use the finest grater that works so your soap melts quicker.
Melt the soap
Add 1 liter of water to a stock pot. Heat the water on medium-high heat. Add grated soap a little bit at a time. Stir the soap gently until it dissolves.
Add Borax and baking soda
Remove the pot from the stove when the soap dissolves. Stir in 1 cup of Borax and 1/2 cup of baking or washing soda. Continue stirring until the mixture dissolves completely. Allow to cool.
Add essential oil
Add 20 drops of the essential oil of your choice.
Store the liquid
Place a funnel in one container. Slowly pour the liquid into the container, filling the container three-fourths full. Fill the second container the same way. Seal the containers with lids.
Use the detergent
Use 1/2 cup of laundry detergent for each load of clothes. The recipe creates enough detergent for over 30 loads of laundry.
