As of 2015, there are 27 amendments to the U.S Constitution, according to the National Archives and Records Administration. The first ten amendments are referred to as the "Bill of Rights."
The most recent amendment was ratified on May 7, 1992, and states that pay for members of Congress cannot be changed until after an election of Representatives occurs. This amendment was originally proposed on September 25, 1789. On that same date, the First Congress proposed 12 amendments to state legislatures, all of which were approved by a three-fourths majority except for the first two. The remaining 10 amendments became the Bill of Rights.
