How many American farms run on wind power electricity?

There is no census to determine how many U.S. farms are running on wind power electricity. As of 2015, there are 2.2 million total farms in the United States, and there are 48,000 operating utility scale wind turbines generating 66,000 megawatts of power.
According to the American Wind Energy Association, this is enough to power 18 million traditional American homes. The largest generators of wind energy are North Dakota and Wyoming. Many wind farms operate on top of existing farmland, and small wind generators ranging from 400 watts to 40 kilowatts can be used to power an entire farm. Wind generators are popular alternatives to extending power-lines for isolated uses such as pumping water.
