The Colt .45 single-action Army revolver holds six rounds of ammunition in a cylinder configuration. During its use with American military it was often carried with only five rounds loaded. With the hammer resting on the round, the sixth chamber had the unfortunate habit of unintentionally firing the gun.

First manufactured in 1873, the Colt .45 is among the iconic weapons produced. Used by U.S. soldiers and sheriffs alike, it is frequently associated with the American west, which earned it the nickname of "The Peacemaker." It was used by such historic figures as Buffalo Bill Cody and General George Patton.
