How many different kinds of wild dogs are there?

There are 36 kinds of wild dogs, all of which are members of the Canidae family. These include wolves, jackals, foxes, dingoes, coyotes, the Indian wild dog and the African wild dog.

Wild dogs have long snouts and legs. They eat meat, although not all species are omnivorous.

While all canines can be called "wild dogs" in common language, the technical or scientific term "wild dog" refers only to Australian and New Guinea dingoes. These dogs are a subspecies of the Canis lupis species, making them closely related to domestic dogs but also distinctive enough to be considered a different wild species.
