The air-source heat pump is recognized as the most commonly used type of heat pump. The air-source heat pump transfers heat between the outside air and the home. Homes that use electricity for heat find that using a heat pump can reduce electricity usage by more than 30 percent. Homes without ducts use a ductless version of the air-source heat pumps known as a mini-split heat pump.
