According to LigerWorld.com, it is unknown exactly how many ligers exist, but it is believed the number ranges between 10 and 100. All ligers exist in captivity, because lions and tigers do not share the same habitats in the wild.
The liger is the result of breeding a male lion to a female tiger. When a male tiger is bred to a female lion, the result is called a tigon. According to Big Cat Rescue, male ligers and tigons are sterile and female ligers and tigons are fertile. Ligers get very large, larger than both of their parents, while tigons remain small and are usually smaller than both of their parents.
