How many MLB teams are there?

As of 2014, there are 30 Major League Baseball teams. Fifteen teams are in the National League, while the American League also has 15 teams. The majority of cities or regions have only one team, but some cities like New York, Chicago and the greater Los Angeles area have two teams.

The history of Major League Baseball dates back to 1876 when the National league was formed by William Hulbert. The American League was formed in 1901. The first World Series occurred in 1903. However, the first baseball game in the United States was played in 1846 in Hoboken, N.J.
