Approximately 102 people attended the first Thanksgiving. Fifty-two Pilgrims were there, including John Alden, Miles Standish and William Bradford. About 50 Native Americans from the Wampanoag tribe attended as well, including Massasoit and Squanto, who acted as the translator between the two groups.
The first Thanksgiving was a three-day event. The precise dates remain a mystery, but it took place in 1621 some time between Sept. 21 and Nov. 9. Exactly what dishes were served is unknown, but according to an account by Edward Winslow, one of the attendees, the menu consisted of waterfowl, turkeys, venison, corn and barley, with the colonists providing the waterfowl and the Wampanoags supplying five deer.
