There are a total of 6 seasons of the series, "Downtown Abbey." On March 26, 2015, executive producer Gareth Neame announced that the 6th season of "Downtown Abbey" would be the final season.

The producers of "Downtown Abbey" felt that it was best to quit while they were ahead and insisted that the series "The Gilded Age" had nothing to do with the cancellation of "Downtown Abbey." Neame also stated that the characters and plotlines would be thoroughly wrapped up with the show's final season. Carnival Films, owned by NBCUniversal, was the producer of the TV series, which was a worldwide success.
