Since 1986, the U.S. Mint has sold an average of 11.3 million Silver Eagle coins each year. The U.S. Mint does not provide production numbers of bullion sales, but it does provide sales numbers, also referred to as the mintage number.

Since 2008, the amount of Silver Eagle coins sold by the Mint has increased dramatically. In 2007, the Mint sold about 9 million of the coins, a figure that doubled to 20.5 million in 2008. The Mint sold 30.5 million Silver Eagles in 2009, 34.7 million in 2010 and over 40 million in 2011. As silver coins are produced exclusively for sale, sales numbers provide the best indication of overall production amounts.
