How many spiracles does a grasshopper have?

Grasshoppers have 10 pairs of spiracles, making a total of 20. Eight of these pairs are located along the abdomen, while two are thoracic. Spiracles are part of the respiratory, or tracheal, system of the grasshopper.
These external holes are surrounded by thin, hairlike structures that catch foreign objects before they enter the spiracles. A grasshopper's 20 spiracles end in spaces inside the insect's body called the atria that then become the tracheae, or air tubes. All insects found on land have these spiracles, but not all of them have the exact same structure as the spiracles on a grasshopper.
