Shark valley is a geological depression at the head of the Shark River in the Everglades National Park. Though Shark Valley is not a clearly delineated geographical area with a defined square mileage, it does cover a 100-mile stretch of the Everglades.
Shark Valley features a 15-mile observatory roadway, a visitors center, an observatory tower and several walking trails. Diverse freshwater wildlife, including multiple species of birds and fish, make their home in the region. The wildlife varies from season to season. Shark Valley's topical geography includes tall grasses that flood during the rainy season. This geographical feature influenced the region's nickname, "River of Grass."
