How many teams are there in the Premier League?

As of 2014, there are 20 football teams in the English Premier League. Each team has to play all other teams twice during the course of a season. After 38 games, the team with the most points is the champion.

The points system in the English Premier League is three for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss, according to About.com. Teams that finish the season with the same number of points are split on goal difference. At the end of the season, the bottom three teams are relegated to a lower division and replaced by three teams that achieve promotion, ensuring that the number of teams competing remains at 20.
