How many trees are cut down per day?

Approximately 80,000 to 160,000 trees are cut down daily worldwide. This estimate is based on the Global Forest Resource Assessment, most recently conducted in 2005, which estimates that Earth lost around 60,000 square kilometers of trees globally in one year.

The GFRA's estimate of 60,000 square kilometers is based on forest density of anywhere from 3 to 6 billion trees each year, which then allows for the daily figure to be calculated. The deforestation and logging industry is worth approximately $64 billion globally, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and this number is more than doubled when the paper and paper pulp trades are included.
