How many types of solar panels exist?

There are four types of solar panels commonly used: single silicon, multi-silicon, BIPV and solar thermal panels. Each offers benefits and disadvantages.

Single silicon panels are the most efficient type of solar panels because they turn more sunshine into electricity. Multi-silicon panels are less expensive to produce, but also less efficient.

BIPV stands for building integrated photovoltaics. They resemble real roofing tiles, and because of that, cost more than other solar panels. Solar thermal panels don't conduct electricity. Instead, they produce the hot water used in a home, business or swimming pool. Larger systems can be used to heat or cool a structure.
