In the U.S., there are four states that begin with the letter I: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Idaho. The state capitals are Springfield, Indianapolis, Des Moines and Boise, respectively.
According to 50States.com, the nicknames for these states are the Prairie State for Illinois, the Hoosier State for Indiana, the Hawkeye State for Iowa and the Gem State for Idaho. Two of the four states boast presidential birthplaces. President Herbert Clark Hoover, the 31st president, was born on Aug. 10, 1874 in West Branch, Iowa, and President Ronald Wilson Reagan, the 40th president, was born on Feb. 6, 1911 in Tampico, Illinois.
