How many ufo sightings have been reported this year?

According to the National UFO Reporting Center report index, as of Oct. 4, 2014, there has been 6,576 UFO sightings reported throughout the United States in 2014. A large majority of reported UFO sightings have been from the period of 1994 to 2014, though older reports are also numerous.

Prior to 1994, the NUFORC collected reports of UFO sightings through traditional methods, such as snail mail, faxes or phone calls. After 1994, BBS and email technology became common reporting files as well with online web forms introduced between 2004 and 2006. Reports of UFO sightings typically increase during July and August, as these are months in the United States where people spend more time outdoors.
