A 15-amp fuse can handle no more than 1,800 watts of power. Anything over that will cause the breaker to trip.
An overloaded fuse should not cause any damage if it is wired properly. A 15-amp circuit should carry no more than 1,800 watts at any one time. If an appliance uses more than 900 watts, it should be given its own circuit. A 20-amp fuse can hold up to 2,400 watts. The circuits should not always be maxed out. At the minimum, 20 percent of the voltage should be left unused to prevent problems.
