There are approximately 250 words on a double-spaced, typewritten page with 1-inch margins when the writer uses 12-point font. The actual word count per typewritten page usually varies from about 175 to 300 words per page.

In order to count the exact number of words on a page using Microsoft Word, use the cursor to highlight all the text on the page and then look at the status bar on the bottom of the workspace. Near the left side of the bar, the number of words on the page and the total number of words in the document appear in a small box.
