The activities of the Marine Corps Security Force Regiment (MCSFR) include protecting national assets, combating terrorism and supporting designated commanders. They are deployed by Commander Marine Forces Command as required.

The emphasis of the MCSFR is on expeditionary deployment. They are also involved in protecting and maintaining high value naval facilities around the world. Marines assigned to the MCSFR are trained in basic and advanced security.

Within the MCSFR is a sub-unit known as the Recapture Tactics Team. Their duties include using explosives to breach occupied U.S. property, attack enemy combatants and provide backup as designated marksmen or sharpshooters, armed with M14 Designated Marksmen Rifles.
