How is math related to fashion designing?

Arithmetic and geometry are necessary for fashion design, production and costing skills. Geometry explains visual phenomena, such as knots, fractals, symmetry, merchandising and the golden ratio. Fundamental arithmetic teaches production and costing skills for fashion design. Basic algebra teaches the fashion student how to solve linear and simultaneous equations.

Math is related to fashion design in a number of other ways, including how to produce specific weaving patterns using a formula. The fashion student requires basic knowledge of algebra in order to determine the mathematical pattern for the amount of threads required per block and the total number of blocks needed for a garment.
