What is meant by a bahala na attitude?

Having a bahala na attitude means using faith as a means of coping with difficult situations. It translates into "leave it up to God."
In Filipino culture, letting go and trusting in God, known as Bathala, is a culturally accepted way of handling life's challenges. It is comparable to other phrases that refer to having a laid-back attitude. For example, the phrase "Hakuna matata," as popularized by the "Lion King" movie, is similar to "Bahala Na."
Bahala na is considered difficult to understand by those who have never been to the Philippines or those who weren't raised in a Filipino family. Like many countries, it has a culture that is reflected in the collective attitude of its citizens.
