How do you measure a bed for sheets?

To determine the sheet size of a bed, measure the length, width and depth of the mattress, and compare it to a standardized size chart. Once you have the dimensions of the mattress, you know what type of sheets to buy or make for your bed.

1. Measure the length

   Using a measuring tape, find the length of the bed from the top of the mattress where the head goes to the bottom of the mattress where the feet go. Make a note of the measurement.

2. Measure the width

   Take the measuring tape and find the width of the bed from one side to the other. Record the measurement.

3. Measure the depth

   Measure the top mattress' depth by stretching the measuring tape from the top of the mattress to the bottom. If the bed has a pillow top or foam layer, include this in your measurement.

4. Use the measurements to determine the mattress' size

   Compare your mattress' measurements to standard size charts to determine your bed and sheet size.
