Pork is the most commonly consumed meat around the world. Other highly consumed meats are poultry, beef and mutton.
The United States has one of the highest per capita meat consumption rates across the globe. In 2005, it came in third behind Luxembourg and Kuwait, and in 2007, it came in second behind Luxembourg. In 2009, Americans consumed 37.8 pounds of beef, 32.3 pounds of chicken, 27.2 pounds of pork, 8.7 pounds of turkey and 3.8 pounds of fish per person, along with nominal amounts of lamb and veal. This came in at 110.4 pounds of meat per person, according to the site ProCon.
