Does Medicare cover the cost of chiropractic care?

As of 2014, Medicare Part B only partially covers a medically required manipulation of the spine to resolve a vertebral subluxation performed by a chiropractor or other qualified medical professional. Medicare does not cover chiropractic care for conditions other than a vertebral subluxation.

Medicare only covers 80 percent of the approved amount of subluxation care, and the deductible applies. Medicare does not cover associated costs of tests or other services ordered by a chiropractor, such as X-rays or massage therapy. Individuals who have Medicare are eligible for partial coverage of spinal manipulation to correct a subluxation. Factors such as other insurance policies, the location where the service is being delivered, the type of facility and how much a doctor charges may affect ultimately how much is owed.
