What medications are used to relieve pancreatic back pain?

Several different medications can be used to treat pancreatic back pain, according to The National Pancreas Foundation. The medications prescribed include nonopioids, mild opioids and strong opioids, depending on the severity of the pain and the response to the medication.
Which medicine is used for pain relief is often determined using the approach prescribed by the World Health Organization, which uses three steps to determine levels of medication. First, nonopioids such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen are prescribed. If the nonopioids are ineffective, mild opioids such as codeine will be administered. In the case of more severe pain, a strong opioid, such as morphine, may be prescribed.
